If you really want to figure out when to visit Kaiserwinkl you’ll have to call the local tourism organization, stay with us though because a true lover of this region doesn’t know a ‘bad time’ to visit Kaiserwinkl. In this beautiful Tyrolean area, it’s always high-season! The area with its Zahmen Kaiser (tame Kaiser) and the Wilden Kaiser (wild Kaiser), its mountainbike-trails and cross-country ski runs, its alpine pastures and huts, crystal clear waters and astonishing gorges, has its own unique appeal, that might even be called irresistible.
Some tourists travel from far away to experience this region – just like my wife and I. Actually, I came here, because of almost chronic back-pain, related to long office days. It is worth a longer journey, because in the fresh mountain air of the Kaiserwinkl and the many hiking trails, a stressed body recovers quickly, you just have to climb up the next hill, enjoy the broad view and all pain seems to be blown away. It is even easier with a certified mountain guide, who is able to fulfil all individual wishes, but quickly recognizes aching and pains as such.
The four villages of the Kaiserwinkl
The four villages Walchsee, Kössen, Schwendt and Rettenschöss belong to Kaiserwinkl. They are traditional villages, each with their own character and beautifully decorated farmhouses and yellow churches with pointed bell towers. A stay there alone always offers surprising views in the changing seasons or lighting moods.
Rettenschöss is a picturesque village on a hill and a good starting point for many walks & hikes. Those who want to enjoy the Tyrolean countryside and its mountain world as a whole, won’t be able to avoid moving around the landscape by foot. The wide variety of various hiking trails and many different levels of difficulty makes this quite easy. There are shorter and longer tours, flat and steep ones, for beginners and advanced hikers.
The most beautiful hiking tours in Tyrolean Kaiserwinkl
The Haarauspitze, the Stubenalm, the Taubensee, the Schmugglerweg and the Straubinghaus are perfect spots for hikers and wanderers. The area offers walks along beautiful mountain flowers, tours to magnificent waterfalls and chapel hikes. To sum it up: Kaiswerinkl is the perfect place to fulfill almost all of a hiker’s desires. There are mountain flower walks and waterfall tours, „Jägersteige“ and chapel hikes – in short, almost everything the hiker’s heart desires. The next filling ‘Brotzeit’ is also just as far away as your level of hunger, scenic panoramas everywhere included!
Wellness and recreation
If after the second or third day of hiking the beautiful Kaiserwinkl area your muscles become stiff and sore, you’ll find enough opportunities to relax with modern wellness programs in most hotels, solariums, cosmetic studios, physiotherapy centers, etc. The list goes on forever, but nothing is more refreshing than enjoying a relaxing sauna and a massage to loosen up every tense tendon. It feels good to strain the body again and to test out the own limits. I know it myself, because I far too often and too long stay on my desk chair and then wonder why the muscles slacken by and by.
It only helps to set up dates and fight the inner couch potato. Let’s go!
Then the time will be right again for Kaiserwinkel. Yippieh.
